Members of the Boone Veteran's Council and VFW Post 817 recently participated in the cornerstone laying ceremony at the newly
constructed Boone Middle School Sept. 5.  Colonel Paul Ladd, Boone County Veterans Affairs Officer, served as MC for the
ceremony.

Sr. Vice Commander Dave Christensen is shown
presenting a donation to Ann Haugland, Chair of
Festival of Hope, on behalf of Post 817. The Festival,
which is held just before Christmas, provides a wide
range of services and financial assistance to families
of children in the Boone Community School District.
The Festival has raised nearly $20,000 so far this
year alone.

Post 817 contributed to the 2007 "Dragoon River
Romp." The event is held annually to clean up the Des
Moines River recreational areas in Boone County.
